Crisis Response Program
An important aspect of VWS’s holistic approach is the Crisis Response Program. Crisis Response Volunteers respond on-scene to provide immediate crisis intervention, helping survivors recover from the trauma of crime. VWS Crisis Response Volunteers are called out by law enforcement agencies, emergency service providers, or at the request of non-reporting victims to provide crisis management, social service referrals, safety planning, and advocacy.
VWS relies on a team of twenty trained volunteers; volunteers are provided an intense twenty hour initial training and then advanced quarterly training. Volunteers work in pairs, answering crisis calls on the weekday schedule of 5:00 pm to 8:00 am, weekends from 8:00 am to 8:00 am the following day, and on holidays. Volunteer always have access to staff back that are immediately available. Annually, volunteers provide average of 10,000 hours a service each year.
