Internships
Description:
- Support Victim Advocates in providing assistance ans services to victims of various crimes. Take on special projects and assist office staff as directed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 18 years of age
- No current criminal record and can successfully pass a background check
- Valid Arizona Drivers License and personal transportation
- Clean driving record
- Ability to work effectively with victims/witnesses in a mature, non-judgemental, and sensitive manner
- Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions
In-Office Responsibilities:
- Answer a multi-line phone
- Provide assistance to assigned advocate
- Assist with case management and crisis response
- Provide court advocacy
- Assist with Injunctions Against Harassment and Orders of Protection
- Data entry into a case management system
- Contact potential clients
Crisis Response Responsibilities:
- Respond on-scene to victims when requested
- Provide appropriate referrals and information to victims
- Assess and address immediate needs and concerns
Training:
- Successfully complete 20 hour Victim Advocate Volunteer training program
- In office training provided by the Volunteer Coordinator and assigned advocate
Commitment:
- Minimum of 6 months or one semester
- Minimum of 8 hours per week (in-office/ intern)
- Minimum of 3 on-call shift per month (crisis response)
- Interns will establish a consistent work schedule with the Volunteer Coordinator
